Foam Rollers And Massage Sticks
Head into most specialist running stores and you'll see a section on the wall for foam rollers and related 'accessories'. Many runners will just walk straight past it and go to the shoes or apparel. Should you or should you find out more? Go and see a physiotherapist and you can be guaranteed that they will discuss foam rollers. We'll discuss why in this blog post.

Headphones On Race Day
Some runners couldn't imagine a world of running without headphones. Others never wear them, while some might train with music but wouldn't consider it on race day. Where are you? If you are planning to run an event soon you need to check what the local race rules are as it might not be as straightforward as you think and it might not be your choice.

What To Wear When Running In The Heat
If you live somewhere that's pretty much hot all the time you'll know how to stay cool when running, but for those of us in a climate where it's almost a treat to run in the warmth then you'll need to take a very different approach than you do in winter. We'll go through the options here and give you the best advice on how to make the most of running on warmer days.

Bay To Breakers
This is one of the world's biggest running events and the one with probably the most colourful history. It's 8 miles of fun that starts along the city's bay front, Embarcadero, meandering to its finish, via landmarks like Golden Gate Park, to the breakers on Ocean Beach. There are tens of thousands of runners, including plenty in costumes of all shapes and sizes. It's a party day that really gets going when the running stops. One for the bucket list.

Running With Headphones
Motivation and taking your mind off the miles are two of the reasons why so many runners use headphones while they run. For many the beat helps push them on and for others they take the time to listen to podcasts while they're running. The Amsterdam Marathon
With the start and finish in the Olympic stadium and a course that weaves its way through the city centre, taking in many of the local attractions this is a great European event that you should carefully consider. Held annually each October there's also a half marathon and an 8k event if you're not ready for the full marathon. Amsterdam is a fascinating city with so much to see and do.

Using The Gym For Cross Training
Cross training is such an important part of your running training and the gym is a really important part of that schedule. Whether it be a regular session in the pool, sessions on the rowing machine or reps on specific pieces of equipment you need to plan how you use the gym carefully and stick to it. It's perfect for bad weather days too!

Alcohol And Runners
You've started your training and all of a sudden you're close to running a 5k. You've heard someone say you shouldn't really be drinking close to an event and someone else say it's bad for your training, full stop. True or false? Is a beer, a glass of wine or a gin and tonic really going to throw your training or event preparation off course or can they happily co-exist?
