Should You Train On Your Own?
Some runners go through their whole running careers training on their own. Others always run with a partner and some only run in groups. There are so many great running clubs catering to all abilities now that meet multiple times a week, making this is a much better option than it used to be. Many runner combine the three approaches. What works for you? Here we look at the pros and cons of running with others.


Event Etiquette
When you have tens of thousands of runners running a major, 10k, half or full marathon it doesn't take many runners doing the wrong thing for the race to become more challenging for others than it needs to be. Yes, there is such a thing as etiquette in distance running and here we'll discuss the best ways to ensure you get as much as possible from your race and that those around you do the same.


Novelty Running Events
Between 2010 and 2020 novelty runs, mostly 5k events, were everywhere. Colour runs and inflatable runs and many more besides sprung up in double quick time and every town and city seemed to have multiple options. Then as quickly as they arrived, they were gone. There are still some around and they are good fun, so if you get the chance they are something different and a way to experience a different side to running!


New York City Half Marathon
One of the most sought after half marathons anywhere in the world, the New York City Half is another for the bucket list. It starts in Brooklyn and finishes in Central Park, through the heart of New York City and famous landmarks such as Central Park, Times Square, and Grand Central Station. It doesn't get much better than that. It's tough to get a spot but there are ways.


How to taper for your next running event
Two or three weeks before your big day and chances are your body will tell you it definitely doesn't want to slow down this far out from race day. But that's exactly what you need to do. It's now time to conserve energy and build up glycogen reserves ready for your run. You'll feel like a coiled spring, ready for action, but you must slow down. We tell you why.


Cooling Down After A Run
You've finished your run and you head inside and grab a shower. Right? No! Just like it's important to warm up before a run, it's really important to cool down after a run. Here we have a look at why that's the case and how you go about it. These few extra minutes are definitely worth it!

There is nothing like seeing friends and family when you're doing a distance running event. Even better if you see them a few times. The Barcelona Marathon
With 27,000 running the last edition of the event, the Barcelona Marathon is growing rapidly. It takes place in one of Spain's most fascinating cities, in March every year and goes past some of Europe's most well known landmarks, like the football stadium, Camp Nou and the Casa Batloi, designed by Antoni GaudÃ, and considered one of his masterpieces. And then there's Gaudi's other landmark, the unfinished Cathedral that you'll also see en route.

Months of preparation and you're on the start line feeling 100%. or are you? Did you get up too late, arrive too late, go to the wrong start wave? There are so many things to think about and if you get one of them wrong it can cause chaos. Planning for your big day is crucial. It's not hard, you just need to devote time to it.


The Runner's High:
There is nothing quite like the 'runner's high'. A short term sensation of elation after intense exercise, it's always been thought that it's as a result of the release from the body of chemicals called endorphins. It can also include a sense of optimism, a sense of achievement or increased confidence and it can make a real difference to our motivation to train. Not everyone gets it though, so is it real and if it is then how does it happen?

The Brighton Marathon
The Brighton Marathon is a firm favourite on the UK marathon scene. Located just over 50 miles south of central London it's a great option for those that don't get an entry in the London Marathon as it's held at a similar time, in April, every year. The course is nice and flat and there's plenty of support on the streets. Definitely a great option if you're looking for a northern hemisphere Spring marathon.


Recording Your Run
Should you record your runs? In years gone by runners would come back from a run and religiously record their run in a diary and compare performance over time. These days it's much different. Press a button at the start of a run and another at the end and you have everything recorded for posterity? But is it a good thing? Does it put pressure on you and affect your performance or is it all positive?
